Bishop MonktonC of E Primary School

Summer term PE: Tuesday and Thursday morning. Please come in your PE kit and bring your uniform to change into at the end of the morning.

World War 2 Day!

We shall be devoting a full day to our history topic: WW2. We hope to dress up, create a museum, learn some songs and generally immerse ourselves in our learning. More details to follow but perhaps start talking to your families now. Have they any objects or verbal stories that would be fabulous to share with the class and enhance all our learning?

Our year 5 winner of the best decorated egg is Ava. Our year 4 winner is Martha. Well done to all who took part.

Egg Ellen’s eggs!

Easter holidays: In line with our policy, we will not set homework for the holidays. We hope that the children have time to explore their own interests and to have fun with family. We also hope that they will continue to read lots and lots.

Easter Service - Please practise 'The Chocolate Song' in preparation for our Easter service in church on Friday 31st March.

The Chocolate Song

Oh I’ve got lots of chocolate,

Give me lovely chocolate.

It’s the best thing to eat, for sure.

When I get eggs for Easter

It’s my favourite treat

So I can always make some room for more!

I’ve got some plain and milk ones and some toffee-filled ones,

I’ve got boxes all around the place.

I’ve got a strong affection for my chocolate collection,

I’m mad about that chocolate taste!

I’ve eaten milky-white eggs and the sweets inside them,

(I’ve got chocolate all around my face!)

They all had pretty wrappers, but that’s not what matters,

I’m mad about that chocolate taste!

I’ve had some sickly sweet ones and some pretty cheap ones,

But I couldn’t see them go to waste.

I s’pose I should know better, but it’s nearly Easter,

I’m mad about that chocolate taste!

Chorus (X2)

Date for the diary - Herons Class Trip on Tuesday 24th January to the Ripon Police & Prison Museum and the Ripon Courthouse Museum to support our learning in History about Crime and Punishment. Children will need to wear school uniform, a warm coat and sensible school shoes. As this is a full day trip, children will need to bring a healthy packed lunch and a full water bottle. We will be leaving shortly after registration and will return before the end of the school day. Please ensure that any necessary medication is in school. Thank you.

Midnight - Please practise this ready to perform in church for the Christmas service. Thank you!

"Midnight" was written by Mark and Helen Johnson, the founders of 'Out of the Ark', published in 1996. It is performed here by the Out of the Ark choir. Video background by Seb Agora from Pixabay.

We had so much fun today in music performing our group composition which represented different stages of the river through a variety of percussive ostinatos. We hope you enjoy listening to it!

Rubbish isn't rubbish! On Monday 14th November, we shall be visiting Allerton Park Waste Recovery Centre. Please be in school promptly in order for the coach to depart at 9:10 at the latest. All children and adults are to wear long trousers, non-flimsy shoes and have a warm coat. We shall be back in school for lunch.

Bishop Monkton Primary School has been focusing on our planet and the choices that we can make to support it. The purpose of the visit is to gain a greater understanding of the process of waste sorting and energy recovery.

We will spend time considering the types of waste we produce and how to dispose of it. We shall all be encouraged to consider our choices. The centre staff will explain the teams and technologies in place at the Recovery Centre - how it is sorted and recycled rather than being sent to landfill. Then we will put on a hi-vis jacket and tour the mechanical treatment hall with it's conveyor belts. Next, we shall visit the control room for the 'energy from watse' facility and here we shall see the giant waste bunkers and the giant grabbers.

Heron's will have the privilege of sharing their trip with the rest of the school through our Thursday morning assembly. No photographs will be taken on this visit.

Half term homework: to read, rest and spend time with your family!

Harvest Service - Monday 3rd October 2022 - St Johns Church
